8-12-11 Report Capt Sonny

Had a few days off, some from the show in Jackson, and some from the wind. We always try to give the customers the option to reschedule if the conditions are less than average. Sometimes we get the weather wrong, but made the right call moving trips around earlier this week. With 15 knots or more of wind, we have had all week, all the guides have been catching up on sleep and maintenance. Today, after several failed attempts, finally got Shore Thing veteran, Black Chaffe on the water(solo). Got the best forecast we were gonna get and went for it. Only had to make 2 throws with the cast net this morning to fill mine and Capt Matts live wells with perfect sized finger mullet and pogies. Left Bayou Caddy early and opted to hit a reef in close while the sun came up. Found keeper trout using the Carolina rigs with either mullet or pogies. Put a mess in the box and released several rat reds. The wind kept blowing and since we were protected, we stayed on the reefs from the bayou all the way to the HWY 90 bridge. Found fish at every stop we made. Keeper trout, mutant white trout, rat reds, sheepshead, and puppy drum all hit the ice. Water was dirty, but the bait was on every spot, either rain minnows, mullet or pogies. Only used the live shrimp at the bridges to get the beloved puppy drum and sheepshead. Pulled the plug just before 11 with Blacks limit of MS trout(15), 3 puppy drum, 1 sheepshead, several rat reds(released) and kept 14 of the mutant whites but released many for another day. Have not fished in close in a while, and forgot how much fun and productive it can be. Mr Black just added to enjoyment.
