Quick report from yesterdays and todays scouting trips:
Grabbed our Cat Island Chef Poppa Louie and good friend, Capt Ray Clanahan for a run to the LA Marsh. Did not see one piece of debris from Bayou Caddy to 3 Mile, just a line of pine straw. Yes water a little dirty, but as wind calmed while we were there it got better and better. Found the best signs of bait near the northern sections of the marsh. The trout we caught were school size, but they were there. Did the stick and move all day, to try and see as much as we could. Live shrimp got bit the most, but the small trout would not leave it alone. Tight lined or popping corks with Marsh Works shrimp or bayou thumpers got most of the eaters in the box. Kept 15 for the grease and released the two slot reds we caught. Capt Kenny called on his way back in today and it sounded like he and his crew found some trout and reds. Kenny said they threw topwater most of the morning, not needing or wanting to throw the corks and shrimp.
I have extremely high expectations for this fall. This little "flush" we got from TS LEE should send fishing into overdrive in the coming days. Who knows what the sudden drop in water temp did to our triple tail. We have had such a good year on those fish, we have much to be thankful for even if we do not see them again till next year. With the incredible trout fishing we have had thus far, we are looking forward to some drag screaming reds with this cooling weather.
