9-10-11 Report(Capt Sonny)

Three boats out today, and the fishing was a little better. Everyone went into LA Waters, but between us we covered the majority of the Marsh. Water looked better and bait was thick. Pogies were at every single stop by the thousands. Saw what looked to be either bay chovies or storm minnows on the east side. Capt Matt did the best on the specks, and it sounded like he stuck them early. Capt Brent was picking away at the reds and trout when I talked to him in the afternoon. It was picture perfect weather, cool in the morning, then T-shirt and shorts weather by 9AM. Still it was a grind for all three boats, but we put it together. Shore Thing Veterans, the Stribling crew were with me. Dad John, and his sons Alex and Charlie are always a treat to fish with. Alex got the blue ribbon today with a 20 plus pound bull red first thing in the morning. Young Alex made up for it with the numbers. When this young buck was not reeling in reds, drum and flounder, he was helping us net the fish. Did find some nice slot reds using live shrimp and mullet under the popping corks. Even picked up a few flounder and black drum next to the grass. Even will all the bait fish we saw, most of the fish we cleaned had either shrimp or small crabs in their bellies.
Saw the boys back at the skinning shed in Shiyou Caddy. Capt Brent and his crew released their bulls but kept some nice specks and reds for the grease. Capt Matt got the gold star for the day. He and the Shore Thing Tally All-Star team had over 30 specks, kept 5 of their 9 reds, and 2 flounder one of which was massive. Me and the Stribling boys finished strong with 9 slot reds(released 1 bull), 2 puppy drum(released 1 big un), 2 flounder and were 74 trout shy of their limit, finding only 1...
