10-30-11

Fished Thursday and Sunday of this past week, and had good catches on both days. The cool weather has sent many of the fish into FEED mode. Thursday was the Mark Davis group(Norma, Benny, and Cheri) from the Forrest County area. The ladies were novices, but by the end of the trip they were giving us men folk lessons. Did not bother much with the soft plastics on this group, we stuck with the live shrimp almost all day. Norma and Cheri caught almost all of the reds. Did hear from Capt Matt on his way in. Seems his two man group got their 50 trout and left em snapping. We slid right on in where he left them biting, many thanks Matt. Did pick up some of the larger trout my fish box has seen in weeks. We also picked up a few more reds, sheepshead and flounder while sticking some fat trout. Stopped by one of my "trout holes", only to get a double on black drum. Very nice weather for this very animated group. We ended a fun day with 19 trout, 6 reds, 2 drum, 1 sheepshead, and 1 flounder. Not bad for first timers!
Sunday was Shore Thing Veterans, the Stribling Boys. Father John brought his youngest son Charles. When I picked up my shrimp and crabs from Bordages, they were laughing at me. Mr. Tommy said, "Ain't no way you going fishin, it's been blowing hard all night". Almost called it off, but had to try. Was able to fish the bay, we just stayed on the Pass Christian side. Actually was a right pleasant day, just a little chilly. Took all of two casts before Big John and Lil Charlie were doubled up on big black drum. The boys got the hang of things pretty quick and the drags got a work out on my reels. Fished the bridges all day and stayed in constant action. Young Charles told me he caught his biggest fish of his life. We ended the day at the World Famous Bay Marina with 10 puppy drum(many released) and 5 sheepshead. Crab, live shrimp and dead shrimp did the damage.
