Two amazing days of fishing in the LA Marsh. Thursday was the famous Pfister group back yet again. These boys have fishing with Shore Thing since 2003, and we can’t get rid of them. One of the best days of fishing was with this crew in October of 2007. Mike, Perry and Joe wanted to try some trout and some triple tail fishing. Did not have high hopes with the wind blowing 15mph all day, but w
e put a great box of fish together. The moving tide seems to be the ticket with the trout. We have been fishing shell bars and reefs and using the birds to tell us where to set up. In choppy seas we boxed 64 keeper specks and 1 flounder. Had to move a bunch to stay on the fish but it was well worth it. Did have some live shrimp, that helped us locate fish, when the birds were not working. Promised the guys we would look for triple tail for a little bit. Glad we did, actually saw two in the choppy water. Caught one and missed one, but the one we caught was the bigger of the two. Capt Matt, Capt Kyle and Capt Matt all did well in the Marsh. Capt Kenny had Shore Thing regular, Shawn Harris and his buddies Jess, Wesley and Doug. Them boys put a hurting on the trout catching 100 sparkle trout and 25 white trout. Kenny said all he could do was just dodge the fish and try to unhook them as fast as possible. They were done early, so they had brunch at the Shiyou Caddy dock(Venison Sausage Sandwiches) while Kenny cleaned fish. Capt Kyle had first timers Sandy, Lynn, Bill and Jason in town from Jackson. This group was looking for a closer to home, place to fish for trout. Looks like found it. Capt Kyle put the group on 73 specks and 15 whites. All the trout were caught on popping corks and plastic. I was the only Shore Thinger out today, with Tom Diano, Hardy and Peter. We have been rescheduling Mr Tom for two years due to bad weather, but we finally got it right. We made short work of the run to the marsh with the calm water. The bait, birds, and moving water seemed to fish everywhere today. Only had to work one area to get 100 keeper trout and one rogue flounder before 11AM. Did have to stick and move all morning, those fish would not stay put. Used tandem rigs on the tight line, and caught several doubles today. Have to say the popping corks did most of the damage, but pretty much anything would have worked. Kept a bucket in the back of the boat that boys dubbed “The Bucket of Death” the fish box became “The Tomb”. Them fellas was out for blood today. This crew had never caught triple tail, so we covered some water. Saw one small one in open water and got him in just one cast. Folks, if this past week is any indication of things to come, it is going to be one heck of a spring/summer bite. Looking forward to fun an exciting Spring and Summer fishing season.
