7-13-12 Report Capt Sonny

Opted to cancel Wednesday and Friday due to questionable weather, but we have still had boats out everyday this week(catching fish). Gold star Wednesday went to Capt Kenny with the Ken Wampner group. The boys were forced to stay in close, but they found the trout. Sounds like I picked the wrong day to cancel as the Wampner group bested 85 trout for Day 1 of their two day adventure with Shore Thing Charters. Mr Ken wanted to get himself a redfish to have mounted, he is a taxidermist. He is going to mount Capt Kennys 27 lb triple tail he caught last year, can't wait to see it. Well, we were all back at it Thursday. Capt Matt and Kenny were out early, they were back after their trout. My group was not quite as mad at the fish, so we left an hour later. I had three generations of Ellis on the boat and we were trying to get grandson Clark(12 year old) on a big fish. We were supposed to go shark fishing, but choppy seas prevented a run to the sharking grounds. The entire day I could hear Capt Matt with the Barfield group and Capt Kenny with the Day 2 Wampner group both were on the trout. Both boats grinded all day, but after hours of work, they both put it on the trout. Since we could not get young Clark a shark, we did find protected water to look for triple tail. As luck would have it, we found him two of the larger ones my fish box has seen in weeks. He got two double digit triple tail and did great. We bounced around the reefs and bridges the rest of the day. We caught specks, flounder, spanish mackerel, and released 2 mangrove snapper! If there was ever a proving ground that these near shore reefs are working, it is catching mangrove snapper off the beaches of Hancock County. Back at the skinning shed in Shiyou Caddy, Captains Matt and Captain Kenny rolled in with great hauls of trout and reds. Once again, Capt Kenny got the gold star with the Wampner boys(Ken, Jimmy, Evan and Walker) catching 75 trout, 2 reds and 1 flounder. Anyone reading this in the Huntsville Alabama area, check out the outdoor show. Captains Kyle and Kenny will be working the Shore Thing booth, go by and say hello. ****SHORE THING Fishing Charters**** The finest inshore fishing on the entire MS Gulf Coast.
