9-28-12 Bonus Tuna Fishing Report!!!

Just gettting in from a great tuna fishing trip from Venice, LA. Did make a an inshore trip Tuesday before I left, so I guess I will start with that...
Had Bill Winborn from Poplarville on Tuesday, he brought his buddies Frank an Josh Genin. Due to a problem purchasing a fishing liscence an a spinal injury, we stayed in close. One of the better near shore trips I have run in a long time. We found some great trout fishing on the reefs using live bait as well as dead bait. We used carolina rigs an got 28 specks in the box before we left our first stop. In between the trout were small reds, plenty of black drum and mixed trash fish.
Moved around till we found some big drum. The boys all got several big drum 2 keeper reds. Great action all morning long, but ended the trip with 28 keeper trout, 14 puppy drum(many released), 2 reds and 3 sheepshead.
Was invited to fish with Andrew Williams of Point Eight Power on a trip with Capt Scott Sullivan on the 39 Sea Vee out of Venice, LA. Very little arm twisting was needed, especially since we got to stay in the Venice Sportsman Lodge. Great food, fishing, and fun times with friends was had by all. Here to tell you, that Sea Vee is a freakin beast of boat. Triple 350 Yamahas cruised us around the gulf at 45 to 50mph with out even trying. All my old buddies have really upgraded to some fine boats.
We fished the trawl boats all day and saw tuna on almost every boat. Must have thrown over 300 pounds of chum that day and the fish ate every scrap. Saw several and got to hand feed 5 yelllowfin tuna a few feet from the boat. All the yellows we saw were well over 100lbs, some were closer to 175! Had some bad mojo on the boat(I got the blame for that) and pulled the hooks on 4 of the five yellows we hooked. Did get 1 good one that weighed 114lbs. Kept 13 black fin, but could have literally caught hundreds of them. I have done this type of fishing many times in the past, but have never seen it this good. Every boat out was seeing, hooking, catching and bringing in big fish. The piles of tuna at the cleaning tables was mind blowing. I am posting all the pics on the Shore Thing Charters website(www.shorethingcharters.com Fishing Reports), if you want to see the entire trip(good stuff). Very sore, forgot how much work the offshore fishing was...
Wanted to thank my man Sid Leblanc and the entire BoatHouse gang for staying late and getting my boat a way over due oil/filter change on Monday. You guys keep us running, and help us make a living doing what we love. Thank You.
