We won 7 categories at the Stripes Spots and Dots Tournament!!!!

Big weekend for the boys, the two boats that fished the Stripes Spots and Dots(CCA, Coastal Angler and IP Casino) tournament at the Biloxi Boat Show did Fantastic!
Capt Kennys crew and my crew were up for the challenge. Seldom do we fish tournaments and rodeos, we are usually booked way out for the weekends. This tournament was something different, but there was some serious money being thrown around too. Our old fishing buddy John Marquez with CCA Mississippi thought it would be a good idea to have a winter time trout, redfish and SHEEPSHEAD.
Truth be told, we were pretty much going for the sheepshead trophy and the $2500 first prize. For the past few weeks we have been catching and releasing huge sheeps minutes from the dock. Well, the two trips we had the week of the tourney were a bit discouraging. The fish were still there, but the really big ones seemed to have disappeared. I had a made a plan to go long but Kenny and the Bailey crew(James and son JJ) opted to grind it out close to home.
I had Shore Thing Platinum Plus member Nathan Guice and his son Tyler. Another Father and son duo joined them, their good friends Charlie Caplinger and his son Conner. By then end of the day we had logged 70 rough miles! Seas were not calm, and the usual mutant sheepshead we catch way down south were not there. Young Conner did get a few fish, but nothing we guessed would even come close to placing in the youth division. The last few hours of the day we fished close to Bay St Louis near Capt Kenny and the Bailey boys. They had a box full of fish(sheepshead, red fish, drum, flounder and 1 speckled trout). Doubt if they traveled more than 4 miles the entire day.
Action was much better closer to the shore and lil Tyler even got a nice 28" red fish. We got a few more decent sheepshead, but both Kenny an I thought our chances at any prizes were not good. I got a faint glimmer of hope when I talked to Dr Don Gaddy later in the afternoon. He had braved the seas like we did and fished the same general area we were in. He even told me he fished there the week before and it was covered up in monster sheepshead. Sounding beat up from the waves(like me), he said those big ones had just moved on.
Weigh in closed at 6pm at that is when the text messages and phone calls started pouring in. Turned out Kenny's crew, the Baileys were in the money and both our crews killed it in the youth division. Mr Bailey missed first place sheepshead by a couple hundredths of an ounce! He did get second place($750) but since the angler in first place was not in the calcutta, he took that as well. His son JJ took home 2nd place in the redfish and 2nd place in the speckled trout youth divisions. No money for the youth divisions but JJ got a mess of tackle and prizes.
The two young guns on my boat did phenomenal as well. Conner took first place and Tyler took 2nd place in the youth division for sheepshead. Conner also nabbed 1st place red fish in the youth division. Those two boys took home a truck load of fishing equipment.
Really enjoyed fishing this tournament, it seemed to have something for everyone. The categories with big fish, slot fish, stringers, and odd ball fish like the sheepshead I thought was brilliant. Big prize money and hefty tackle prizes for the youth divisions were big draws as well. I know two crews that will be fishing it next year...
