Getting out most everyday, and still makin it do what it do. When the weather allows, we are heading over to the LA Marsh to look for the elusive sparkle trout and reds. If we book a shorter trip or the West wind blows, we have been enjoying the near shore fishing for the trout, reds, flounder, drum and other critters.
Speaking of other critters, we put a small cobia on the boat last week while fishing one of the near shore reefs(MORE REEFS=MORE FISH). Local guy, Logan Hardie had his son Will and his buddies in from Philadelphia, PA. Two of the college kids on the boat had never been fishing, so it was a treat. Every fish that came over the side was marveled at. By the end of the day, we had: speckled trout, bull reds, flounder, cobia, sheepshead, jack crevealle, triple tail, sting rays and a few more less desirables. Every gilled critter that came over the side was followed by a 10 minute discussion on history and evolution. It was fun to have such a fresh crew on the boat. Last fish of the day was an undersized triple tail, that we tagged and released. Those boys will have plenty to talk about on the drive back to college in Philly.
The bull reds have still been keeping us busy. Earlier in the week, the big schools were still popping up, smashing bait on the surface. Been donating plenty of Boat Monkey Corks to the bulls. The big fish have been smoking the popping corks. If another fish hammers the Matrix Shad under the cork, they shatter the rig, even with 40lb test leaders. Most of the time the cork will pop back up, but it takes a beating. Still the toughest cork on the market in our opinion.
