For the most part, the wind has told us where to fish. On the windy days(15-20+) the boats have been hugging the shore lines from the Pearl River to Pass Christian. The fishing has been keeping us busy, but we are looking forward to playing in the LA Marsh as temps cool.
We had a huge trip over the weekend with the boys from Southern Pipe. 6 boats out and we made a good showing, before rain came through later that evening. My boat got big fish honors with a big red. The prize for the biggest fish was a K-2 Cooler! Since the guy that supplied the cooler was the one that caught the fish, he gave it to one of the young sons on Capt Bretts boat(very cool). When the boats came in, they had drum, sheepshead, reds, specks, whites and some massive flounders. Capt Jimmy Ray did get several oooh's and aaah's with his brand spanking new 24 Blazer Bay.
The weather forced us to reschedule and or cancel many of the trips from last week. With the good weather report for the next several days we have been trying get our crews in on the comfortable seas. Capt Kenny was out in the LA marsh yesterday with Pat and Chris. He said they drifted a small bay that was infested with slot reds. He said they had at least 20 different fish smash the Boat Monkey Corks. He also said they had times were 3 casts in a row would get hit by reds.
I was playing in the Bay and on the reefs with John and Ted. These old Navy buddies were a treat to fish with. Ted was from Michigan and had never seen most of the fish we caught. At the end of the morning, we had a box of puppy drum, reds, and sheepshead. I am certain that they had more fun fighting the big jack creavalles and the surprise bull shark.
Things are still pointing to a fantastic fall bite. Not gonna lie, the cooler temps have been a treat to fish in the last week. If yall wanna get in a trip before hunting season gets into full swing, give us a shout...
