Another Baby Nutria in a red fish belly and plenty more Fish too!!!!

What a great week of fishing and weather we have had! For most of the week, we had a lil wind to deal with but the fish did not seem to mind. The fall bite has been very consistent on speckled trout, white trout, slot reds, bull reds, puppy drum and flounder. The boats have been working together to stay on the bites. The north wind has made for some tricky fishing in the LA Marsh. Combined with the low tide, some of the spots we fish have been out of the water!
The guides have been doing the stick and move technique on the specks and whites. Boat Monkey Popping corks with 2 feet of leader to a 3/8 ounce jig head have been the locators. Still slinging the Matrix soft plastics and even using tandem rigs when the bites turn on. The diving gulls and terns have been a huge help locating the fish. The shrimp have been thick in the marsh and the trout have been gorging on them. I don't think anyone has brought in any huge trout, but they are keepers and a very sight. We really don't have much in the way of a near shore report, I don't think any of the boats stayed in close this past week.
I have been spending most of the week deep in the marsh, having fun with the red fish. The ponds we have been able to get in have been loaded with shrimp, finger mullet, crabs and apparently BABY NUTRIA RATS!!! When Jennifer King and her Dad were fishing with me, one of the slot reds we caught had a whole baby nutria in its belly. I think this is the 5th or 6th one we have found since 2006. The low water has given the reds little to no protection. The fish we have been seeing have had tails and backs out of the water. We have even been fishing over grass into ponds and skull dragging fish in, through the grass, back to the boat.
We think it is safe to say, that this is gonna be one heck of a fall bite. Good steady trout bites, even in less than perfect conditions and excellent red fishing is already here. The bull reds and big black drum have been testing the drags on the Okuma reels and the landing nets. Still got boats open if anyone wants to get in a trip....
