We are gonna need a bigger boat!!!….

Kind of having to go for the best bang for the buck the last few days. Some of the last few days the winds have kept the boat fishing in MS waters. We have been working in the protected waters and putting it together with some trout, reds, flounder, drum, sheepshead and drum. Looks like after today, the weather is getting back to normal, and we will be getting back to the LA Marsh more often.
We did have a fun one on the last trip over there. Had the Griffen boys and their Grandpaw. We were trying to get the boys to bring home a pile of trout to feed the masses. We did not load the boat, but while we were fishing, big rafts of mullet were swimming by. The youngest Griffen asked, "can you do anything with those"? I told them I use them to catch big sharks, bull reds, and Jacks. Grandpaw put his pole up, and informed me, "you did it now". Two casts and two live wells slap full of huge mullet later, we were sharking.
The mullet never made it more than 5 minutes. The bull sharks were massive and the boys would have stayed there all day. We put one of the bigger ones in the boat for pictures and released the rest. I have caught some big sharks over the years, but these were some of the biggest I have seen in years. On the big fish note, still punishing my big Okuma Spinning reels. The Azores and RTX in the 80-85 class are absolute beasts. Have not found a fish that they cant handle. We also got a bonus on the way home, a big fat triple tail.
Customers have really enjoyed tagging the smaller fish. Seems like every other day, we are catching tagged fish or someone is catching the fish we tagged. Very little is known about these amazing fish, and we are more than happy to assist with the data collection on them.
One of the better near shore trips this weeks was on Capt Kennys boat. Shore Thing Gold Status member, Bruce Hall had a fantastic day in close. Kenny had the hot hand with the big trout and the bull reds. They were bouncing around the reefs doing the stick and move routine with live bait on the bottom. Bruce has been on some amazing trips and always brings the best luck with him, usually in the form of his fish slaying wife.
Every so often our customers bring us or make us gifts. Got one of the cooler ones I have seen in the mail this week. Professional Photographer Daniel Van Slyke was out at the Cat Island House with us earlier in the year. One windy afternoon while the rest of the crew was resting, he and I went exploring the island. He was taking pictures of the island, water and wildlife. I was taking pictures of old shoes that washed up on the beach. For what ever reason, those old shoes are everywhere. I told him I wanted to make a collage with the pics, just cause it was out of the ordinary. He downloaded my pictures and told me he wanted to make it. He had all the equipment and know how to make it happen. Could not be more pleased with the coolest and oddest custom poster in the world "The Footwear of Cat Island" . You rock Daniel, Thanks man!!!
