Huge Triple Tails, Plenty of Reds, and Lotta of Miles…

The last few days on the water have been very good. Mother Nature and the fish have been pretty nice to our crews. The red fish, triple tails and speckled trout fishing has been consistent. The big bull reds have still been around, and love em or hate em, they have been the biggest thing going.
Had a good one with Bruce McDonald and his Buddies. We hit a few spots in a different area than Captains Matt n Capt Kenny. Those two hit there trout early with the Wilkerson and the Shields crews. Sounded like they were using live shrimp working a current line over  a shell bar. We opted to stay put and work the broken grass shore lines for red fish. The guys working the trout were doing well, and the red fish were kind to us. When the smoke cleared, Capt Kenny had over 50 keeper specks in his box, and think Capt Matt was in the 30's. The bull reds visited every boat that day. We just kept on the slot reds and filled the box with them. Even got to do a little sight casting. Did not have one throw back, they were all perfect 17-19 inch fish. Still got to see a few triple tail, but they were smaller tagging sized fish.
Sunday, we had two groups of regulars on two fantastic trips. Capt Kenny was rolling the Fowler crew, and I was with the Jones Boys.  David had got his Dad Frank a trip for his birthday. These boys were really after triple tails, but we opted to leave a little early to go after some trout and reds. Capt Kenny was on a great trout bite, so we set up next to him. The Fowler boys were slinging trout over the rail when we arrived. The Jones father/son duo has fished with us out of the Cat Island House. They hit the ground running and grabbed 20 something trout very quickly. The standard issue bull reds showed and sent us packing. Both crews were really looking forward to triple tail fishing, and both crews got a good taste of it. The VHF told the story of the rest of the day. We would see or catch one, then you would hear Kenny, "got a good one in the boat", or "just tagged one". We missed two good ones, saw a bunch of smaller ones, and caught a slab. The Fowler boys with Capt Kenny tagged some small ones, caught two big ones, one was a 26 inch fatty, the fish was close to 20 POUNDS!
My buddy Nathan Guice was up for looking for triple tail all day Monday. Minus a few short stops, that is pretty much what we did. When I took the boat of the trailer that morning, I zeroed out the odometer and when I put it back on the trailer that afternoon it read 100.1 MILES! The triple tails were not very kind to us though, we only saw two small ones. Honestly, I would do it all over it again tomorrow. Luckily we made a few quick stops to break up the day. One stop we found some big trout, another stop was for flounder, and the last one of the day was slot reds. Long day on the water, and the triple tails were not cooperative, but that's fishing. Just glad we made our little stops, it did get us an inshore slam.
While we were covering the northern gulf looking for triple tails, Captains Kenny and Matt were easing and pecking on the trout and reds down in the LA Marsh. Capt Kenny was fishing with Party Pat Calhoun and Gluckstadts finest, Chris Crowson. They even ran into a couple of nice triple tails to go with their trout and red fish.
