Unbelievable couple of days on the water with some great people. Monday we had Andrew Whitman with Gulf South Outdoors. Shore Thing had done episodes with GSO in the past, but it has been a while since we have joined forces. Andrew is the new host/producer, and wanted to do something different. He has already done shows tuna fishing, kayak fishing, and even night fishing. When I told him about sight fishing for red fish, he was all over it. I don't want to spoil the episode, but we were using a very special bait to catch these fish, and he got some incredible footage.
Normally when you have a video camera on the boat, the weather and the fishing are tough. Lady luck was on our side, and we got perfect conditions. The water was gin clear, and the fish seemed to be everywhere. Andrew is a tech guy, and has the latest greatest high definition cameras with all the bells n whistles. He even had polarized lenses on his cameras, so the footage was "picture perfect". We got red fish to inhale baits right next to the boat, and he had the cameras rolling the entire time. Had to make one quick stop on the way home to grab some trout. Had to beg Andrew to put down the camera and wet a line. Glad I did, he only fished for a few minutes, but in the time, he hammered some trout, and got a bull red. Think he told me the show will not air for a couple weeks, and you will not believe what did.
Tuesday and Wednesday were very special trips. The Catch-A-Dream Foundation approached Shore Thing Charters to assist in making a wish come true for a special young lady. We jumped at the chance. For two days, Beth(16yrs old) her Dad Todd, Grampa Bobby and Catch-A-Dream representative Chuck joined us for some awesome fishing. Beth is from Kentucky and had never done any salt water fishing. She wanted to give it a try and maybe get a fish big enough to mount. We got fantastic weather on Tuesday, and literally spent the entire day on the water. Since Nikki Moon with Bay Town Inn in Bay St Louis was hosting them, we picked them up at the new Bay St Louis Harbor, across the street. You would have thought Beth had been salt water fishing for years, she went straight to work. Big sheephead, black drum, flounder and redfish were all caught by Beth and her family. We caught some good fish, but did not know if we had the found the fish she wanted for the wall.
Wednesday, we had a front rolling through, rain predicted to fall, chilly temps and wind. We stayed till dark Tuesday, thinking we would not be able to fish the next day. We got lucky and were able to fish several hours near Bayou Caddy and did very good. Not long after we started, Beth locked into what would be her wall hanger! She got a big slot red, with 7 spots on it, She knew when it hit the deck, it was the one. For several hours, she and her family stayed hooked up with keeper and throw back reds and trout. Honestly believe she would have stayed into the night if we let her. Very tough young lady.
Later that evening, we all met up at for an amazing presentation and delicious meal. Nikki Moon with Bay Town Inn assisted in setting all the meals up, and even joined us, along with the managers from the restaurant. The good folks at 200 North Beach Restaurant in downtown Bay St Louis put is in private room for a very special night for Beth and her family. Chuck gave a nice talk about his organization, and bestowed gifts on everyone. It was a very cool evening, and even cooler that Beth was the guest of honor.
For making this trip happen, we would like to say thanks to:
