From everyone at Shore Thing Fishing Charters, we hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Most of the boys have been either spending some much needed time with their families, or in the woods. Capt Alex has been doing horrible things to the ducks up in the delta. I believe he is the only of us enjoying this windy and rainy weather. Captains Kenny, Ray, Darrien, and Jimmy are doing well in the woods. At press time, Capt Darrien has the biggest buck so far, a big ole dandy 8 point. Capt Kenny has been seeing plenty of big deer up in the delta. He is patient though , and holding out for a big boy this year.
Capt Matt and myself have been holding down the fort. The weather has not been stellar, but we did make it out over the holiday weekend. I had my good friends David Bassett, his son-in-law Chris Carpenter, and his young uns Gavin and Morgan. We had to keep it close to home due to the thick fog, and stout east winds. The youngsters did not seem to mind the short boat ride, and Morgan even got a fish on her first cast! From then on it, it was a bit of organized chaos. Chris barely got fish, he was all about everyone else having fun. He was helping me, but he an I could barely keep the hooks baited. We even had to get young Gavin to help us net a few of the fish. It was almost entirely big sheepshead, but we did find a couple of puppy drum. Only fished a couple hours, but ended with almost 30 sheepsheads and puppy drum.
With rough seas, fluctuating temperatures, red tides, and fresh water, it was nice to fill up the fish box and prove that there are still a few fish out there... Now more than ever, we are just picking our days and playing it safe. If the weather is not looking right, we either reschedule or cancel. I can only imagine once we get into a typical winter weather pattern, we will see many more fishable days in between the cold fronts. Until that happens, we will be watching the weather, playing in the woods, and enjoying our family time.
