Just keeps getting better every day. We are getting ready for what has the makings of an amazing spring bite. Capt Matt was able to put a nice box of trout together last week, down in the LA Marsh with the Merritt Boys. The winds did not give these boys much of a break on their two day adventure. Tusa went for it, and went from zero to hero quickly. Matt searched far and wide until he found a pocket of clean water over some shells. Matt said the first cast was about a 3 pound trout, and the second cast was a big bull. The bull shut down the trout, and Matt left them. He checked on a few more spots, but none had that clean water so returned back to it. He said they were holding in this one little cove, and would not leave the cleaner water. They were able to crank out 45 before another bull red showed up, and shut down the party. Matt said the bite was just as good with a Matrix Shad under a Boat Monkey popping cork as it was with a live shrimp under a Boat Monkey Cork.
Kenny was helping the Sparks crew cross off a bucket list item. FOUR GENERATIONS of Sparks men descended on the Bay and had a themselves a good ole fashioned skull dragging. They had a Great Grandpaw all the way down to the 4 year old Great Grand Baby. Kenny loaded the boat with shrimp, tackle, and eventually a pile of fish. Staying very close to the dock, this crew mauled the fish. They returned with an overflowing box of sheepshead, redfish, puppy drum, flounder and even a trout. Mid way trough the trip, Kenny had the 4yr old casting, hooking and catching fish. The lil guy even had Kenny clean his fish separate so he could take "his" fish home. We say the prhase a lot, but this literally was "The Trip of a Lifetime"!!! Great job everyone!!!
Took all week, but we were finally able to get Buck and Mary out on the water. They were in town from California, and wanted to get the best weather day. The very last day of their 5 day vacation gave us flat calm water and cool temperatures. Buck is from the area, but Mary had never fished here. Every fish she caught was her first, so it was a big day for her. She got her first sheepshead, flounder and red fish. With the higher water, we were able to do a number on the red fish and flounders. The sheepsead were every cast, and we would leave them biting. They were really not interested in keeping fish, but when I told them that we clean their fish, and The Blind Tiger Restaurant in downtown Bay St Louis would cook their fish, they were blown away. TBT has hit a homerun, cooking our customers catch. This lovely couple got to enjoy lunch, dinning on fresh fish they caught only an hour or two before! Thank You Blind Tiger for helping make a great day on the water even better on land, you guys rock!!!
Capt Matt could not sit at home with the perfect weather. He chunked his son Gray in the boat for a quick trip in the Bay. The dynamic duo were able to make quick work of the sheepshead and red fish. When the winds picked up, they were already back at the dock. Quick trips with the youngsters are better than no trips. All of our guides are firm believers in "More Tackle Box and Less XBOX"!!!
Got a chance last to week to meet and fish with a very cool young man, my new buddy Kris. A friend of Kris and his Mom Melinda, Mr Terry saw our show on Gulf South Outdoors. He saved our number, because "we seemed like nice people". He wanted to get Kris out on a boat and see if we could help him catch some fish. Kris was all smiles from the second he got on the boat, till he left. I do not care for the term special needs, because this young man needed not a thing. Kris reeled in every fish, and was one of the most fun dudes I have every been on a boat with. Even when we got checked by the MSDMR (water police), Kris helped me show the agents all of our safety gear. What was supposed to be an hour long experiment, turned into a half day adventure. We caught a ton a sheepshead, and Kris liked to call them "Sh&T Heads". Pleasure to fish with this guy and his family, and glad I got to make a new friend.
Spring his here, and we are ready. The next few months will be a little crazy for us. We will do our best to update the pics and fishing reports ASAP. Of course....If you would like to be in one those pictures and fishing reports, just give us a call. Thanks
