The guides have been running non stop, even with this wild weather we have been having. Keeping a very close watch on the horizon, we had boats every single day. Being very careful, we have been able to put together some very fun days on the water. One thing we have not had much time for is updating the sites with fishing reports, so we are gonna try to recap the last the week as best we can, and let the pictures fill in the gaps. Here we go!...
The better part of last week, we spent out at the Cat Island House with Casey Hoyt and the crew from PHM in Lafayette, LA. It was during that really bad weather, so we were in the best possible. If the weather was bad, we would jump back to the house and goof off. Chef Frank was working overtime to keep these 12 guys fat n happy. Boiled shrimp, boiled crabs, gumbo, fried shrimp, fried fish and more junk food than should be legal is what we ate during the storms. When the weather broke, we jumped out in the boats and went looking for trout, triple tails and sharks. Most of the crew had not fished much, so they were floored that we could catch all this stuff right "out the front door".
We even saw Capt Kenny out there one morning. He couldn't stay long, they had nasty storm coming in from the south. He made it back to the Pass Harbor right as the worst of it hit. It was some nasty weather, they even had people taking pictures of them, thinking they were heading out into it! Kenny got his crew in safe n sound, and I imagine enjoyed the photo op to give the folks on land something to talk about.
We had a celebrity out this past week. The Mayor of Cat Island, Walter Gaudin was on the boat with his son Dano and his grandson Baylor. They got treated to some of the tackle shredding big bull red action. Baylor did most of the work, but has yet to break his Grandpaws personal best of 42 inches on a big bull. Dano yanked in a big tripe tail and they grabbed several nice flounders to take back to North MS to chew on.
On the triple tail side of things... Capt Alex and Capt Jimmy Ray had one heck of a trip later in the week with the Scurria Group. This two boat trip was looking to relax before heading to the Guns n Roses concert in New Orleans that night. There would be no relaxing. Alex and J-Ray put on a good show with some trout before reeking havoc on the triple tails. They came in with 9 fat triple tails with a nice mess of trout to boot. I guess they had an "Appetite for Destruction" in the "Paradise City"....
The biggest news we have had in a long time has to be Capt Matt Tusa's opening of his tackle and clothing store in down town Pass Christian! Brush Island Outfitters(133 Davis Ave Pass Christian, MS), is open and going strong. Matt hand picked all the tackle, so it literally has everything we use on our all of our inshore trips. They have some very swanky outdoor clothing as well. We are very proud of the Mighty Capt Matt, and very glad we can get all of our tackle at one spot, so close to home. All you fisherman and fisherwomen be careful when entering this store! I have had my wallet emptied the last two times I have been in there. Kidding, but you can do some damage with all the cool stuff he has in there.
