Fishing with Guy Harvey Magazine!!! Holiday Shopping Made Easy!!!

Still open for business, but we have been doing our fair share of playing. With this latest batch of bad weather, the guides have either been in the woods or spending time with family. I have just returned from a week on a Disney Cruise with the ENTIRE Schindler family. While I was away, Capt Matt was able to get a little water time in, on some very successful near trips in close. Sorry for the late report, but its just a busy time of year. Here we go...
We have been taking full advantage of the down time, and getting some much needed work done on our boats. The Boathouse Gang in Lakeshore, MS completely changed out my bilge system. It was long overdue, just never had enough time off the water to put the boat in sick bay. Sometimes this time off the water is just as important as our time on the water. Having good people like we have at the Boathouse (Sid, Steve, Ron, Dylan, Griffen), keep us working and fishing. Thanks for the hard work guys.
Before I jumped on the cruise ship, we had some crazy good fishing down south in the Louisiana Marsh. We had some of our Shore Thing Platinum Elite members join us. Capt Matt had our old buddy John Clemons. I got to spend time with the Stribling boys, and my old pal Byron Braud. Even got to fish with outdoor writer Nick Honachefsky, with Guy Harvey Magazine. Our old buddy Mike Jones with MS Tourism set the whole thing up, and joined us. Glad he did, it was Magic Mikes Birthday!
Capt Matt let us borrow his fly rod, and Nick was able to scratch speckled trout and red fish off of his hit list. The weather was picture perfect both days, and the fish paid dearly. We were greeted our first morning, at the first stop, with trout leaping out of the water. The fish were blasting shrimp that were pouring out of a large drain. We had good moving water both days, and the trout seemed to be sitting at the mouth of every drain we fished. The sunny skies and low water, made for some insanely good sight fishing for red fish. Nick was like a kid in a candy store. Most of the redfish we were casting to we actually heard first. These fish were punishing crabs and minnows along the banks. Never had the big packs come through, but got to cast to tailing fish for some incredible strikes! The most fun we had on our 2 day adventure was in a small drain. We found a narrow drain with reds that just wouldn't quit. Even stopping to take pictures, we kept em coming over the rail. Nick got his first red on a fly in there. Magic Mike kept some of the fish, to take back to Jackson. My man was all smiles with those fillets heading north. The did take a few of the fillets to The Blind Tiger for some fresh trout and reds. As usual, socks were knocked off!!!
The last trip I was on, was with the Stribling boys (John, Alex and Charles). The boys didn't mind staying a little late, and glad we did. We spent all day getting a trout here and there. The reds were there too, but they were very spooky. When we moved to some new drains, we found the big packs of big slot reds. From there, it was who ever put a bait in the fastest. We had fish swimming all around the boat, it was an awesome way to close the day.
Since it is getting closer to Christmas, we wanted to help yall out with some gift giving. If you have a fisherman or fisherwoman in your life and want to get them something special, check out Brush Island Outfitters in Pass Christian, MS. Shore Thing Charters own Capt Matt Tusa and his wife own the store. All you need to do is tell Matt what type of fishing they do, and how much you are looking to spend, he will take it from there. They have rods n reels, specialty inshore tackle, high end outdoor apparel, flip flops and much more. Capt Matt is usually there every afternoon, and on bad weather days. Speaking from experience, don't try and guess what they might want. Go talk with the Pro and he will get you lined up with the best gear that they will actually use. Painless shopping.
We will be fishing every chance we can get. If you are booking a trip, we ask that you please be as flexible as possible. The fishing is very very good in Dec, but we gotta watch the weather closely. We don't want to take anyone out in cold, rough weather if we can find a better weather day. Most of our regulars ask to be put on a call list for good weather days. If you book and the weather is not looking safe or productive for a good day on the water, we can try to move you to another day. We may not be fishing every single day, but we are always open(weather permitting). Thanks
