Very good week to own stock in Ziploc... Man the guides were mad at the trout this past week. The only thing hotter than the temperature was the fishing. We were given some really good weather the past couple of days, and the fishing was probably the best we have seen this year!
Capt Darren put up some huge numbers the past couple of days. He had John Hurst on the boat this week, and Mr John always brings some trained killers with him. We usually don't bring 5 people on our trips, but every once in while we will do it. Glad Capt D had the extra bodies on the boat, because they landed on some hungry trout. Using live bait and artificials, this crew brought in 125 keeper speckled trout!!! This was just one of the big hauls Capt D had, man he was on a roll this week.
Capt Alex was holding his own the past couple of days as well. Alex even mixed in some mutant white trout with his big catches of speckled trout the past couple of days. He has been drifting oyster reefs in 4 to 6 feet of water. Most of the areas he has been working, he has had all to himself. The highlight of the week on his boat, had to be the massive triple tail he found on his way home to the dock!!! For what ever reason, we have not been seeing many triple tails this year, so seeing that fat tasty triple tail gives us a little hope for the coming months.
Capt Matt has been doing it to it this week also. He was back very early on Friday with Rae Montjoy, his wife Betsy and their friend. They knocked out 75 beautiful trout and beat the heat for mid morning return. Matt has been flip flopping from our dock in Bayou Caddy and Pass Christian to try and get to the fish as quick as possible.
Captain Kenny and myself got to spend most of our week out at the Cat Island House with the Weyerhaeuser boys. We got treated to 3 incredible days of weather, fishing, food and fun. I'm not gonna lie, the trout fishing was re-donkulously good. My boat did not contribute a whole bunch to the massive pile trout. Truth be told, Capt Kennys boat did the majority of the massacre. On the second day, his crew put 100 fish on the pile, that steadily grew for the 8 person crew. My boat crew was all about red fish, big fish and or big red fish. We did a little bit of trout fishing here and there, but my boys were looking to fight with big bull reds, sharks and huge jack crevalle. By the last morning of our 3 day trip, both boats only wanted to tangle with big fish. We spent the last couple hours of our last morning drifting huge chunks of bait through boiling lady fish schools. What a way to end our trip, fighting big bull reds, big angry sharks, and drag screaming jacks!!!
